Concept

Our aim is to convey social values, hope and, above all, a zest for life to children and young people. In this way, we want to encourage positive behaviour and increase their chances of a better future.

The day centre and preschool is open to children aged 2-13 years. Teaching positive social behaviour, skills such as reading, writing and the four basic arithmetic operations are part of the pre-school programme. Playing, singing and handicrafts round off the programme.

The adjoining playground is also available to children.
Currently, 100 children attend the MAGIF COMMUNITY SCHOOL every day.
The children are divided into three groups according to their age:

Group 1: children aged 2 to 4 years (20 children)
Group 2: children aged 5-7 years (27 children)
Group 3: children aged 8-13 years (28 children)
Group 4: mixed age (25 children)

Some of the children come to us at the age of 10 or 11 and need special care. They have never held a pencil or notebook in their hands and often suffer from poor concentration. The children are looked after and taught by four carers and three qualified teachers. They have completed a part-time training programme (afternoons and Saturdays).
A social worker has been employed since April 2018. A cleaner and a security guard maintain the premises. Two cooks prepare the daily meals.
The school meals were financed by Welthungerhilfe from 1 December 2014 to 30 April 2020. Since then, the school meals have been funded by MAGIF.

The school is a free service for the population of Zubah Town. The school meals provide the children with a reliable, daily meal. These services are made possible by MAGIF and the association Liberia e.V.-Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe.

The school building also serves as a meeting place in the afternoon. Young people from the community meet either to play sports together or for lessons under the guidance of the social worker.
The work with young people includes specific topics relating to the lives of teenagers and young adults such as Leisure activities, crafts, music, health care, family planning and much more.
Visits to the National Museum, library or the seaside were also organised. Visits to authorities and workshops are also part of the programme in order to gain an insight into their tasks.
Furthermore, a free tailoring course is offered in this building, run by a professional tailor. The offer is aimed at people in the community.

26 children who previously attended GERLIB COMMUNITY SCHOOL are now able to attend formal school. These include 11 children who are supported by the Freundeskreis Ingrid Bugla Liberia e.V., five by private sponsors and 10 children who are being enabled to attend school by the non-governmental organisation Pro Liberia From Street to School e.V., Munich. In addition, there are the girls who live in the MAGIF CENTER and have already completed their primary education.
